Syrian Family Settlement
See Current Project for background information
Humanserve is partnering with the Alberta Office of the Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) who are providing their guidance and support of the Syrian family we are sponsoring to immigrate to Canada. MCC has a sponsorship agreement with the Canadian government for the settlement of refugees and they have a lot of experience in these matters.
Humanserve will be working with and coordinating efforts of our local Edmonton community in their support of the family in the following areas:
Cash Donations
To support the family during their first full year of residency in Canada, Humanserve has contributed $32,000, which is the minimum amount recommended by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to support a family of seven for one year.
In order to cover all potential and unforeseen expenses, HUMANSERVE has a goal to raise an additional cash donations, for which MCC will issue tax receipts for all cash donations up to our $11,000 goal. If you would like to donate and receive a tax reciept, click the button below to visit the Giving Registry to donate on behalf of the family...
In-Kind Donations
In addition to cash donations, we will also be accepting in-kind donations of items on behalf of the family. You can consult the donation registry below for ideas. Gently-used items are appreciated; some items are marked as "new only" for hygenic and safety reasons. If you have an item from the list that you would like to donate, OR if you have an item you would like to donate that is not on the following list, please provide the information on our In-Kind Donation Form.

Volunteering
Providing settlement support to a large, immigrant family requires assistance on many fronts, including transportation, English as a second language, child care and generally providing help and answering questions the family may have while navigating Canadian society with it's different culture, laws, practices and customs.
If you would like to become a volunteer to asssist the family, please fill out the Humanserve Settlement Committee Volunteer Application so that we gather some information about you, your interests, experience and availability. Thank-you!
